Amstrad is a British consumer-electronics brand founded in 1968 by Alan Sugar as A M S Trading, which grew from importing hi-fi accessories into a major manufacturer of hi-fi, TV and video equipment, fax machines and telephones, and in the mid-1980s became a leading UK home-computer maker with the CPC464, PCW8256 and PC1512. Alan Sugar sold the business to Sky in 2008.
