Founded in 1988 in Ipswich UK by Tom White to produce original board games (the first being Ad Mad), children’s action games TV-DVD games, creative product and humorous novelty items. The company's Who Wants to be a Millionaire game became the biggest selling brand in the toy industry in 2000, and was awarded game of the year in both 1999 and 2000. Upstarts went into administration in April 2007 defeated by cashflow problems arising from an overstock of DVD games for Christmas 2006. The company's assets were acquired by University Games in June 2007.
