School Zone Publishing Company was founded in 1979 by educators Joan Hoffman, M.A. and James Hoffman, Ed.D., after Joan opened a teacher supply store in 1975 whose parent customers created the demand for the workbooks they began publishing. Based in Grand Haven, Michigan, School Zone has produced supplementary educational materials aligned to national standards for over 45 years, best known for its Big Workbooks, flash cards, early readers and the Jaz’s and Little Scholar lines, and now for the Anywhere Teacher online learning platform.
